Caregiver Training for Professionals, Groups, and Individuals
Caregiver training is offered in many formats. It is provided through comprehensive courses, for specific needs, or as individual training materials. For those who seek to make caregiving a professional endeavor, or somebody that wants to personally care for a family member, many training options are available. Caring for an elderly or disabled person requires special skills and without the proper caregiver training, it could be unhealthy for both the person being cared for and the caregiver.

Online caregiver training is a widely available option. This is provided for both general care and care for specific cases such as people with Alzheimer’s disease. One is a 40 hour instructor-assisted program offered through a website which, in this case, is offered in partnership with Rogue Community College. Its curriculum is devoted to group training for agency employees and community colleges. Employee progress is tracked through both administrative and employee pages.

Caregiver training programs are broken up into a few main segments. The first is dedicated to staff training and continuing education, in which DVDs, textbooks, and other support materials are incorporated into a curriculum-based course format. This is often arranged into a classroom setting, or can be done online, but involves being a part of a group class.

Professionals working for private organizations are another group that benefits from caregiver training. Separate training programs are offered for those working for government, state, or county agencies as well as for community colleges and libraries. There is a 21-hour training program for this purpose. There are also online training, books, and DVDs on a number of care giving subjects for this subset.

Individual online caregiver training is offered as well. This is for those who want to learn on their own. Additional materials are also available with this option through a selection of DVDs, which instruct on a variety of topics. All are sold separately. Offered alongside the same programs available for career-based caregivers, caregiver training for individuals caring for family members is a whole segment to its own. Entire courses can be downloaded from the Internet. A huge variety of books are available for caring for the needs of those with certain ailments, dealing with emotional stress, and other relevant topics. There is even a whole section, on one site, that deals entirely with materials supporting the caregiver’s health and well being.

The large number of resources for caregivers is also broken up by topic. This does not only make materials for Alzheimer’s and Aphasia care easy to find, but things such as communication skills, general elder care, and safety topics such as fall prevention, infection control, and wheelchair safety.

All of these options for caregiver training can be found online. Training is offered elsewhere too, such as through continuing education courses or private agencies and institutions. It is important to select a course that details the type of care the caretaker will or wants to provide. If the training is offered through an agency, then the employee just needs to follow the coursework. Gaining a broad understanding of caring for someone with special needs is important for all caretakers; for the well being and safety of the person being cared for and the caretaker.

With more people living longer, and a population that is aging in general, the wide choices for caregiver training are a benefit to many. They can be found in many places and on many websites, which offer training choices for both groups and individuals at affordable prices. With these training options, caregivers can be assured they will be able to help those in need.
